Sidney was the son of Hilaire Elias Steen (c1780-1859) and Catherine STELLY (1793-1856). His siblings were:

Sidney married Mary Marie REYNOLDS (1841-bef 1874) on 5 May 1858 at the Courthouse in St. Martinsville, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana. Their marriage information was found in the Southwest Louisiana Records CD - "STEEN, Sidney m. 5 May 1858 Mary Marie REYNOLDS (SM Ct.Hse.: Mar. #1347)"
Sidney and Marie had the following children: Clara J. (1859-1870), Katherine Malvina (1862-1950), Charles Sidney (1864-1936), and George Louis Steen (1868-1943).
After Mary's death sometime before 1874, Sidney remarried to Marie Euchariste D'OIRON (1845-1900) on 11 Feb 1874 in the St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. This information was also found in the Southwest Louisiana Records book: "STEEN, Sidney (s. Elie & d. Catherine STELEY) m. 11 Feb. 1874 Eucharis DEROUEN (NI Ch.: v. 2, p. 253)".
Sidney and Marie had two daughters: Marie (1874- ) and Eva Steen (1878- ).

Sidney also appeared on an 1860 Slave Schedule (as a slave owner) and the 1860 Louisiana Census - both locations being St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.
On February 13, 1899, Sidney indicated on his Soldier's Application for Pension [Civil War] that he enlisted in the Civil War on the side of the Confederate's "toward the end of 1863", but on the same type of application he filled out on 2 Apr 1900, he indicated that he enlisted in "the first part of 1863". He was a Private in Company B, 7th Louisiana Calvary and his commander was a Colonel Bush.
In his pension application, Sidney indicated he surrendered in May 1865 at Bayou Chicot (above Opelousas), Evanlegine Parish, Louisiana where he was taken as a prisoner of war. Sidney and others were paroled on 21 Jun 1865 in Washington, Louisiana.
We were not aware of Sidney's place of burial until my sister found the website www.gracelandcemetery.com which included Sidney's name as being buried in this cemetery and his burial location being Section SE, Block 15, Lot 7, Quadrant SW.
