Funeral services for Phillip Walter Ball, 82, who died at the home of his son, Noel Ball, Athens, were held October 25, at Mt. Carmel Church of Christ with Tonis Davis officiating. Burial was in Wallace Cemetery.


Mr. Ball was the father of 13 children, all of whom attended his last birthday celebration on July 25 for the first time in 15 years.


He was an elder in the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ.


Survivors include Luther Meroney Ball, Thomas Lafayette (Fate) Ball, Earl Lee Ball, Phillip Noel Ball and Theodore Paisley Ball, all of Athens and vicinity; Dewey Ottis Ball, Auburndale, FL; David Lipscomb Ball, Detroit, MI; Mrs. Lillie Mae Ball Gough, Cooper, TX; Mrs. Mattie Sue Ball Hagood, Mrs. Ruby Pauline Ball Barker, Mrs. Reba Earline Ball Murrah, Athens; Mrs. Alma Louise Ball Brooks, Trumann, AR; Mrs. Betty Maude Ball Hooie, Athens; 47 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two brothers, G. W. Ball of Route 5, and T. E. Ball, Route 1, Athens.


He married Addie Hill Flanagan on November 20, 1897 in Limestone County, AL. She preceded him in death on September 5, 1922.


He married Alice Edna Johnston Barksdale (widow of William Thomas Barksdale) on October 2, 1933, Limestone Co, AL. She preceded him in death on February 10, 1969.
