Dewey Ball, 84, of Lakeland, Florida, died Tuesday at a hospital in Lakeland.


The funeral was today at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens, AL, with Joey Curtis officiating. Burial was in Athens City Cemetery.


Survivors include one son, Robert Ball of Lakeland; two stepsons, Herman Hess of Hollywood, FL, and Donald Hess of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one daughter, Betty Sue (Ball) Phelps of Lakeland; and one stepdaughter, Helen (Hess) Weaver of Athens; and four sisters, Alma (Ball) Brooks of Trumann, AR, Sue (Ball) Hagood, Ruby (Ball) Barker and Betty (Ball) Hooie, all of Athens.


He was preceded by his first wife, Anna Estelle (Gordon) Ball. They were married Oct. 4, 1932 in Limestone Co, AL. She died in 1944 and is buried in Athens City Cemetery.


He was preceded by his second wife, Mildred Jane (Smith) Hess Ball. They were married January 28, 1947, Limestone Co, AL. She died in 1980 and is buried beside her husband in the Athens City Cemetery.
