From the Korean War records on file at the National Archives: Joe Barnes was living in Comanche, TX when he entered the service and was a member of the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on July 18, 1952. Corporal Barnes was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
