Rodell E Endres, 48, died Sunday at a local hospital. Mr Endres was the owner of the El Roco Lounge in Grand Forks. He had been hospitalized here for one week and previously was a patient at Rochester, MN. He died of cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at St Michael's Church with Rev John E Moore officiating. Military honors will be accorded by members of Grand Forks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1874 at the graveside in Calvary Cemetery. The body will lie in state after 3 pm Tuesday at the Grand Forks Norman Funeral Home where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 pm. Mr Endres was born Nov 16, 1921 at Harrold, SD. He was raised in Mitchell, SD and was a 1940 graduate there of Notre Dame High School. Mr Endres was a veteran of the US Army in World War II and entered the Army on Oct 19, 1942, at Fort Cook, Nebraska. He served in the South Pacific Theater and was awarded two bronze stars. He was discharged on Jan 20, 1946, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas with the rank of Tech 4. Following the end of the war, Mr Endres went into business at Centerville, SD, where he operated a pool hall and lounge. In 1951, he came to Grand Forks. Mr Endres married the former Gloria Wolever on Oct 20, 1951 at Denver, CO. Mr Endres established the Sports Bar here and later was the owner of the El Roco Lounge. As a youngster at Mitchell, he had begun riding horses and subsequently was the owner of many prize-winning horses. Mr Endres was a member of St Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks Elks Lodge, Grand Forks Knights of Columbus Council 1260, East Grand Forks Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie, Grand Forks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1874, Grand Forks American Legion Post 6, Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce, St James Athletic Board, and North Dakota Horse Show Associates. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Patrick, Paul and Tom; three daughters, Maureen, Doris and Bernadine; one sister, Mrs William (Ilene) Meinen, Akron, Iowa, and seven brothers, Lester, Brainerd, MN, Melvin, East Grand Forks, MN, John Jr, Madison, SD, James, Thousand Oaks, CA, Joseph, Austin, MN, William, Spring Green, WI, and Delbert and Don Endres of Grand Forks. His parents and one sister are deceased. The family prefers that memorials be designated to the Ireland Cancer Research Center of North Dakota.
