Rev. Grady Timmons Will Conduct Services at Sherwood

William Lackey, within six days of being 81 years old, died here Saturday morning from a stroke of apoplexy suffered only nine days before. Mr. Lackey was one of the few remaining survivors of the Ben Ficklin flood and was a brother of John Lackey, the first county clerk of Tom Green County. He came to Ben Ficklin in 1869 at the age of 17 years, having ridden horseback from Kentucky.

Funeral services are to be conducted at Sherwood by the Rev. Grady Timmons at 2:20 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The body is to be taken to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ray B. Johnston here at 415 West Avenue D early Sunday morning by the Robert Massie Company and it will be in state until 1 o'clock, at which time the funeral procession is to leave there.

Surviving Mr. lackey are his widow, five sons and three daughters. The sons are J M of Sanderson, John F of Tularosa, NM, Jerome S of Sheffield, Roy of Sanderson and Edgar of Ramah, NM. The daughters are Mrs. Ray B Johnston of San Angelo, Mrs. Ray Hays of Reagan County, and Mrs. N F Maddux of Pampa. A nephew, J E Lackey, also resides at Sherwood. On account of the weather, two sons, John and Edgar will not be here for the funeral.

Mr. Lackey resided most of the time in Irion County near Sherwood, opperating an irrigated farm. He served several years as county commissioner in Irion and also as school trustee there. He was married to Miss Prudence Strickland in September, 1876, at Del Rio. She died in March 12 years ago, and Mr. Lackey subsequently married Mrs. Hope Miller in 1921.

Pallbearers will be Sam Harkey, J H McManus, Mike Wagner, Frank Emerick, Pink Rutledge and George DeLong.

Honorary pallbearers will be W S Kelly, C B Metcalfe, M B Pulliam, W W Carson and Penrose B Metcalfe of San Angelo, Tol Rutledge, W J D Carr, Joe Rutledge, A W Claiborne, and J T Barnes of Sherwood; Fayette Tankersley, J W Hartgrove, J W Christopher and J B Burney of Mertzon; G N Hodge, Best; Charley E Davidson, Ozona; J Millon Puckett, Sonora; J D Moore, Del Rio, and Bruce Drennon, Arden.
