Thomas Gatiƒs was born in 1793 in Biddick, County Durham the 4th child/3rd son of Thomas Gatiƒs (1759-1830) & his wife Ann Gatiƒs nee Cole (1759-1835). He was baptised on 20th October 1793 at All Saints Church, Penshaw, County Durham.

Thomas married Dorothy nee Stodart on 22 Nov 1817 at St. John, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England & they had eight children being, Thomas Henry; Henry; Margaret; John; Ann; Luke; Richard; George Moore:
On all eight of his children's baptism records, his occupation is given as 'A Pitman'.

Thomas died in December 1834 aged 41yrs, at Coundon, County Durham and was buried on 9th December 1834 at St. Andrew, Auckland, County Durham. From the Parish Register his entry reads thus: "Burials in the parish of St. Andrew, Auckland in the County of Durham in the year 1834. Thomas Gatiƒs of abode at Coundon buried 9 December age 41, buried by G. Fielding. (Curate)."
