Dorothy Stodart was born on 2nd October 1798 at Bainsley Lane, Lamesley, County Durham the 4th child/2nd daughter of Henry Stodart (1752c-1840) and his wife Margaret Stodart nee Maddison (1771-?). Dorothy was baptised on 2nd December 1798 at St. Andrew, Lamesley.

Dorothy married Thomas Gatiƒs on 22 Nov 1817 at St. John, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England & they had eight children being, Thomas Henry; Henry; Margaret; John; Ann; Luke; Richard; George Moore:

Her husband Thomas died in 1834, and with a young family still at home, she married for a second time on 2nd August 1840 at Heworth Parish Church, Heworth, County Durham to John Bowmer, a Pitman who was a Widower and the son of John Bowmer a Cartman. They had no children together.

Dorothy died at Coundon on 4th November 1841 aged 43yrs of Consumption (TB), as per her Death Certificate in my possession, and her death was registered by her second husband John Bowmer. She was buried on 7th November at St. Andrew, Auckland, County Durham. From the Parish Register her entry reads thus: "Dorothy Boomer buried Nov. 7th 1841 aged 43yrs by J. Martin."
