His headstone reads he died in 1953,this is an error as I have the funeral home record and the obit from the paper ,also the death certificate.

He died at Fort Sanders Hospital.

He was born in Hancock County,Tn. The oldest son of Henry and Catherine Ratliff Wilson.His mother died when he was abt. 13 years old leaving Joe and brothers John, James and a sister Martha.Martha died in childbirth leaving 4 children.

Joe's father remarried Tabitha Neeley and they had a large family.They moved to South Carolina in the early 20's ,and Henry died abt. 5 years after they moved there. He was a farmer most of his life, but worked for a short time in the textile mills. Henry also had a son Andy with a lady he was not married too, she died when Andy was a very young boy and Henry and Tabitha raised him.

Joe's first wife was Nancy Cordy Perry and they had four children together ,the first children a daughter died a few after her birth , The living children were Emma, her older brother William and Bertha who was a baby when Cordy died.

Joe married Eliza Mayes Purkey ,she was a widow with four children. Joe and Eliza had a large family together.

Joe was my grandfather and he died when I was about ten years old.
