Rev. Orville Denton, 93 of Pana passed away Friday, June 7, 2019 in his home. He was born March 16, 1926 in Herrick to the late Lewis & Nancy Emaline (Burris) Denton, the 6th of eight children. He married Geneva Sims on June 12, 1949 and she survives in Pana.
Orville was a minister, first at Greenleaf Church in Lakewood, IL, then at Oak Valley United Pentecostal Church, rural Ramsey, for 45 years. Most recently, Orville was a member of Christ Tabernacle in Herrick, IL. Orville also worked as a cement mason and ran Denton Construction Company. He started a Christian school, first at the old Oconee school, then later moved it to Oak Valley. Orville loved God, family, church and friends. He never knew a stranger and could start a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed reading his Bible, gardening, and spending time with his family & friends. He was also quite a jokester. He was happiest surrounded by company in his home.
Along with his wife of almost 70 years, Geneva, Orville is survived by his children Brenda (Archie) Brown, Pana and Nathan (Ginger) Denton, Atwood; daughter-in-law Nancy (Ron) Sanders, Ramsey; grandchildren: Tara Moreland, Floyd (Carla) Denton, Darien (Tanya) Brown, Melanie (Mike) Oary, Heather (Shawn) Hocq, Heidi (Toni) Thevenot, Hollie (Ed) Auton, Andrew Denton; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren . He was preceded by his son, John Kevin Denton; siblings: Floyd Denton, Joe Denton, Otis Denton, Harold Denton, Kelsey Fatheree, Nellie Henderson & Myrtle Sims.
Funeral services for Orville will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Tabernacle, Herrick with Bishop Thomas Suey and Pastor Jereme Suey officiating. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Christ Tabernacle, Herrick.
Memorials in Orville’s honor may be made to Mid America Parochial School (M.A.P.S) at Christ Tabernacle, 10 N. Myers, P.O. Box 218, Herrick, IL 62431 and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
