Lewis Denton, 78, of Taylorville, formerly of Pana, died at 10:50 p.m., Friday, Nov. 26, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, after a brief illness.
Mr. Denton was a retired railroad maintenance man and Veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church and American Legion of Taylorville.
He was born in Butler County, Mo., on May 2, 1893, his parents being the late Thomas and Almedia Bland Denton. He was first married to Emaline Burris, who died Aug. 15, 1962. He was married to Mrs. Edith McKinney in Herrick on Nov. 3, 1969. She survives.
Surviving besides his wife are 3 daughters, Mrs. Kelsey Fatheree, Mrs. Nellie Henderson and Mrs. Howard L. (Myrtle) Sims, all of Pana; 4 sons, Floyd Denton, Otis Den­ton, Orville Denton and Joe Denton, all of Pana; a step­daughter, Mrs. Eloise Huffines of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 4 step­sons, Earl McKinney, Leonard McKinney, Floyd McKinney and Jesse McKinney, all of Tay­lorville; 2 sisters, Mrs. Clara Logsdon of Macon and Mrs. Nettie Cearlock of Pana; also 15 grandchildren and 7 great­grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., today, Monday, Nov. 29, at the McCracken Funeral Home, the Rev. Lyman Berroyer of Taylorville officiating. Burial was in Price Cemetery, near Oconee.
