Elizabeth Jane "Eliza" Angel was born about 1824 in NW Campbell Co., Tennessee in an area that became known as Angel Valley, near present day community of Ketchen. The area is now part of NE Scott County, created in 1849.

She was the daughter of Archibald Andrew "Arch" Angel (1775-1847) and Nancy Ann Trammell (1782-1829), the youngest of their six known children. There were probably other children who died at/near birth or who did not survive childhood. Both of Eliza's parents (Arch & Nancy) are buried in now unmarked graves in the Angel Family Cemetery (aka Angel-Wright Cemetery), once part of their family farm.

While the Angel Family Cemetery is often referred to as the Angel-Wright Cemetery, there are only six Wrights known to be buried in this cemetery and they are all related to the Angel family. The first Wrights known to be was buried there (1918) were the infant twins (Velma Wright & Claude Wright) of Lewis Wright (1892-1985) and Mary Angel (1894-1975). Another one of their children, Dennis Wright (1929-1929), is also buried there. James Trammell (1775-1826) was the first known burial (1826) in the cemetery and still has a readable marker. He was the brother of Nancy Ann Trammell, the wife of Archibald "Arch" Angel. Nancy was buried there in 1829, Arch in 1847.

Eliza's father, Archibald, was born in the British Province (Colony) of North Carolina. He died in Angel Valley, Campbell Co. (now Scott Co.), TN and as mentioned above, is buried in the Angel Family Cemetery. He was the son of English immigrant, William Angel II (1752-1853), and Mary Rachel Godwin (1752-bet 1841/50).

Archibald's father, William, was born in England, probably in the county of Shropshire. He died in Charlotte Co., Virginia. He is thought to have immigrated to America in the early 1770s. Mary was born in the British Province (Colony) of North Carolina. At the time of her death she was separated from her husband, William, and living with her son, Archibald in Angel Valley. She died in NW Campbell County (now NE Scott Co.) about the age of 89 and is buried in the Angel Family Cemetery in Scott Co., TN. She had been living with her son for several years prior to her death.

Eliza's mother, Nancy, was the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier, Dennis Trammell (1759-1849) and Elizabeth Brassfield ? (abt 1757-abt 1820). Brassfield may have been the maiden name of Eliza's mother, however, this is currently uncertain. Dennis died in Campbell County around the age of 90 and is buried in the Trammell Cemetery in Winfield, Scott Co., TN. Nancy's older brother, James Trammell (1774-1826), is buried in the Angel Family Cemetery and has the oldest readable marker in that cemetery. Elizabeth's burial site is currently unknown.

On Apr 24, 1842, in Campbell Co., TN, Eliza married widower, Jackson H. King (abt 1817-1857/60). Jackson was 25, Eliza 18. Jackson's older brother, Enos King (abt 1816-bet 1892/1900) had married Eliza's older sister, Nancy Angel (abt 1820-bet 1892/1900)) in 1839. Both had moved back to Campbell County from Whitley Co., KY, a distance today that is only about 20 miles.

Born in the Capuchin area of Campbell County, not that far from Angel Valley, Jackson and Enos were the sons of Thomas Murray "Tom" King (1790-1880) and Mary Rebecca "Polly" Cox (1800-1881). Thomas was the patriarch of the King family in McCreary Co. (then part of Whitley Co.) having moved his family there about 1819 from the Capuchin area of NE Campbell Co., TN.

It was the second marriage for Jackson, his first wife (name unknown) died in Campbell County about 1840-41. Before her death they had three known children: William King (1836-aft 1850), Sally King (1838- aft 1850) and John King (1840- aft 1850). If she was a member of the Angel family, as thought by some, she is most likely buried in the Angel Family Cemetery.

Eliza Jane and Jackson were married about 17-20 years and had eight known children. They were Nancy "Nanny" King (1843- ?), James King (1844- ?), Nicholas King (1849-aft 1850), Jane King (1849-bef 1860), Martha King (1850-1935), Andrew Jackson H. King (1854-1936), William King (1855-1870) and Thomas M. King (abt 1857-abt 1885).

Jackson is thought to have died between 1857-59 in Whitley Co., KY about the age of 39-41. He was living on his farm (owned) close to the KY/TN state line, not far from Ketchen/Angel Valley. He is thought to be buried in the Angel Family Cemetery in Scott Co., TN in a grave that is no longer identifiable (unreadable or unmarked field stone).

Eliza, who did not remarry, appears in the 1870 census living with five of her children (age 10-20). She last appears in the 1880 US census as widowed, living in Whitley County with two adult sons (Andrew and Thomas).

Eliza died between 1891-1900, also in Whitley County. She would have been 67-76 years of age at the time of her death. She too, is buried in the Angel Family Cemetery, near her husband, Jackson. Their markers are now unreadable (260+ in this cemetery) or their graves are now unmarked. Her parents are buried there, as are several of her siblings.

The Angel Family Cemetery has 160+ unidentifiable grave markers, most of them field stones. Eliza and Jackson have, or had, two of those markers. Unfortunately, cattle have been in the cemetery and have done considerable damage to many of the markers.
