Dennis Angel was born about 1819 in NW Campbell Co., TN. The area in which he was born became part of NE Scott County in 1849 when it was created from portions of Campbell, Fentress, Anderson and Morgan counties.

Dennis was the son of Archibald Andrew "Arch" Angel (abt 1775-1847) and Nancy Ann Trammell (abt 1782-1829), early pioneers of northeastern Tennessee. They are buried in what became the Angel Cemetery (aka Angel-Wright Cemetery), located on their family farm, near the present day community of Ketchen.

Dennis' father, Arch, was born in British Province of North Carolina (1712-1776). He was the son of William Angel II (abt 1752-1853) and Mary Rachel Godwin (abt 1752-bet 1841/50). William was an immigrant (early 1770s) from Shropshire, England. They were married in North Carolina about 1774.

Dennis's mother, Nancy, was born in Orange Co., NC. She was the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier, Dennis Trammell (1759-1849), and Elizabeth Brassfield (?) (1757-abt 1820). Dennis was born in Amelia Co., VA, died in Campbell Co., TN and is buried in the Trammell Cemetery near Winfield in Scott Co., TN. Elizabeth was also born in Orange Co., NC and died in either Georgia or Tennessee.

Dennis's first marriage was to Sarah (?) MNU (abt 1813-abt 1847/48). They are thought to have married about 1845 and to have had two children, Narcissa Angel (1846-1906) and Luanna Angel (1847- ?). Both were born in Whitley Co., Kentucky. Sarah died quite young and is thought to be buried in the Angel Cemetery where her husband would be buried.

About 1848, Dennis, a 29 year old widower, married a second time. This time he married widower (?), Elizabeth "Lizzy" King (abt 1819-bet 1860/70), also 29. Her first husband , if she had one, is currently unknown. Lizzy was a daughter of William King I (1785-1841/50), a son of Kirby King (abt 1752/55?-1795/96) and Uroth Murray (abt 1752/55?-1806?) and a brother of Thomas Murray "Tom" King (1790-1880). Kirby and his family are thought to have migrated around 1784-85 from Halifax Co., North Carolina to Washington County in Western Carolina's Western Territory. Washington County is located in northeastern Tennessee.

By the mid-late 1810s, William King I, his brother, Thomas Murray King, and their sister, Nancy Ann (King) Douglas (1792-1861) had all migrated from Washington Co., TN to Campbell Co., TN, Each eventually lived about 5-15 miles from the area that eventually became known as Angel Valley. In fact, William had three children (Sarah, William & Elizabeth) who married into Archibald Angel's family while Thomas had two sons (Enos & Jackson) who did likewise.

Dennis and Lizzy were only married about twelve years but had eight known children. Their children were Jasper Angel (1849-bef 1860), Sampson Angel (1851-1900/10), Elmonzo Mansel Angel (1853-aft 1880), Nancy Angel (1855- ? ), Evaline Angel (1857-bef 1860), Sarah Angel (1858- ? ), Amanda J. Angel (1859-bef 1860) and Napoleon Bernard Angel (1860- ?). Apparently, three of their children (Jasper, Evaline, Amanda) died at/near birth or did not survive childhood.

Dennis died about 1859 in Scott Co., TN, around the age of 40 and is thought to be buried in a now unmarked grave in the Angel Family Cemetery (aka Angel-Wright Cemetery). This old family cemetery has over 160 unreadable grave markers, many of them just weather damaged field stones. There are also several grave sites that are now unmarked.

Lizzy appears in the 1860 census where she shown as a widow living with six children: Martha, Sylvania (Luanna?), Sampson, Elmonzo, Nancy and Sarah (ages abt 3-15). Martha and Sylvania were children from Dennis' first marriage. Lizzy also appears in the 1870 census as the head of her household, again with six children.

Lizzy is thought to have died between 1860-70. She too, is buried in the Angel Family Cemetery near Ketchen in Scott Co., TN. Her grave site, like that of her husband's, is now unmarked or has a marker (probably a field stone) that no longer readable.
