Nancy Ann Trammell was born in Orange Co., North Carolina about 1782. While her parentage is somewhat uncertain she is thought by most to have been the daughter of Dennis Trammell (1759-1849) and Elizabeth Brassfield (1757-1820).

It is her mother's maiden name (Brassfield ?) that is debatable. There are some who believe that her mother's maiden name was not Brassfield, that she was actually a young widow (abt 21 ?) whose deceased husband's surname was Brassfield.

Until proven otherwise, we'll go with the maiden name of Brassfield. In almost every Angel family tree Nancy Ann is shown as the daughter of John Brassfield (abt 1832-1778) and Elizabeth Reade (abt 1830-1765). They married in 1755 in Orange County, the county of Elizabeth's birth. Nancy Ann's father, John, was born in Wake County.

Nancy's father, Dennis, was a Revolutionary War soldier. He was born in Amelia Co., Virginia, the son of Thomas Trammell (1710-1807) and Elizabeth Sebastion (1713-1768, both also born in Virginia. It is thought that Dennis' great-grandfather, Thomas Trammell (1645-1725), immigrated to Virginia from England in the mid-1660s.

Around 1804, Nancy married Archibald Andrew "Arch" Angel (1775-1847) in Tennessee, possibly in Washington County. Campbell County was not created until in 1806 when it was formed out of Anderson County and Claiborne County. Arch was the son of William Angel II (1752- 1852) and Mary Rachel Godwin (abt 1752-1841/50).

Nancy and Arch were married for about 25 years and had six known children. They were James Angel Sr. (abt 1806-bet 1870/80), Thomas Angel (1814-1851), Milla "Millie" Angel (1816-bef 1880), Dennis Angel (1819-1858), Nancy Ann Angel (abt 1820-bet 1892/1900) and Elizabeth Jane "Eliza" Angel (1824-1891). There may have been other children (2+) who died at/near birth or who did not survive childhood. Five of their six known children married members of the King family.

Nancy died on Jan. 28, 1829 in Campbell Co. (now Scott Co.), TN about the age of 47. She is buried on their family farm in the Angel Cemetery (aka Angel-Wright Cemetery). Her marker reads "N. A. Angel 28___1829". Her husband, Arch, died on July 14, 1847, also in Campbell County, about the age of 72. There is an unreadable marker next to Nancy's grave that probably marks Arch's burial site.

Nancy's brother, James Trammell (1774-1826), is also buried in the Angel Family Cemetery, buried there three years before his sister's death. He has the oldest readable marker in this cemetery and possibly in all of present day Scott County (formed 1849). He is the first known burial in this cemetery.

I have visited the Angel Family Cemetery several times over the years as my 3G-grandparents, Arch & Nancy Angel, are buried there, as well as several other ancestors. Time and cattle have taken a toll on this old family burial ground that was once part of the Angel farm. The chimney from their old house still stands, just a stone's throw from the cemetery.

Their daughter, my GG-grandmother, Nancy (Angel ) King (abt 1820-bet 1892/1900), was named "Nancy Ann" after her mother and grew up on the Angel farm. She and her husband, Enos King (abt 1816-bet 1892/1900), however, are buried in the smaller King Family Cemetery (aka Laurel Creek Cemetery & King-Perry Cemetery) in McCreary Co. (then part of Whitley Co.), Kentucky. It is located about 12 miles from Angel Valley.

The Angel Family Cemetery has 160+ unidentifiable markers, many of them just field stones. There are also several graves that are no longer marked.

It was known as the Angel Family Cemetery long before the Wright family lived on the property. Two Wright men, father and son, Dennis Wright & Lewis Wright, married Angel cousins (Lucinda Angel & Mary Angel) in 1877 and 1912. There are only five known Wrights buried in the cemetery. The first two Wright burials were twins (Velma & Claude Wright), infants who died in 1918. Other known Wright burials were in 1925 (2) and 1929.

Unfortunately, cattle have been allowed to enter this little family cemetery some time in the past and have done considerable damage to a number of the burial markers.
