WESTFORD - Herman (Sy) Roberts Sr. died yesterday at the Westford nursing home. He was married to Mary (Danuswich) Roberts; the couple would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary July3. Born in Tyngsboro on October 22, 1911, he was the son of the late Silas and Mary (DeCarteret) Roberts. He received his education in the Tyngsboro School System and Lowell Trade High School. over the years he was employed as a stone cutter at many granite quarries. Among them were DeCarteret Granite Quarry in Westford, Barretto Granite Quarry in Milford N.H., Millstone Point Granite Quarry in Connecticut, and the H.E. Fletcher Granite Quarry in Westford, from where he retired in 1991. He then cut granite for the Minellie Construction Co. in Hull . In his early years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Moose Club in El Paso, Texas.Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William (Marion) McNeely of El Paso Texas, and Mrs. Amos (Doris) Crawford of Fitchburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Hermand (Buubba) and Juliet (Malenfant) Roberts of Westford; two sisters Mrs. Matilda Gosselin of Dracut, and Mrs. Hazel Harrigan of New Ipswhich N.H.; eight grand children and 10 great grand children. He was also the brother of the late Howard Roberts of South Barre, MRs. Ruth hall of North Chelmsford, and Mrs. Mildred Patenaude of North Chelmsford.
