Bandits Kill a Man

Albert Lee Frakes is Shot in the Back While Fleeing

A 32 year old attendant was shot in the back and killed early today during a holdup at the Silver King Service Station at 720 East Sixth Street.
The dead man was Albert Lee Frakes of 714 East Eight Street. He had been employed at the station about four years.*---
--Clue in oil can
Police found a large oil can near the garage at the front of the station and employees said it "was not" station property. Detectives surmised the bandits approached Frakes with the can, saying their can was out of gasoline. As Frakes began to fill up the container with fuel, the bandits drew weapons, police believe. It was believed that Frakes then, began to run west, down the driveway and that one of the bandits shot him in the back. He apparently died before being found by Rice.
A total of $47.85 was found in his pockets, indicating the bandits obtained no money during the robbery.
