Robert McGee one of the Five McGee brothers from Ireland

Robert McGee (Jr.) is the son of Robert McGee Sr., he married Jane Heaven on 20 July 1765 in Augusta Virginia, they are the parents of five children.

© Robert McGee Jr. was born in Donagheady, County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland and he is the son of Robert McGee Sr., his mother's name is unknown. What is known is that she was born in Ireland and married her husband Robert McGee Sr., the couple had six children all born in Ireland. The McGee parents later moved from Ireland to come to America with their five sons, their daughter Jane McGee, stayed back in Ireland. (Note: Mother McGee's name is NOT Elizabeth Stokley or Ann DeJarnet. The research in both Ireland and the USA by Bill and Jerry McGee, has proven that the parents of the Five McGees was Robert McGee and his Irish wife Mrs. Unknown McGee.)

Robert McGee Jr immigrated from Ireland to America in about 1756 with his parents, Robert Sr. and (mother) McGee and his four brothers, William, James, David and John, a sister named Jane McGee stayed in Ireland, she was married to Charles Young.

Robert McGee Jr. married Jane Heaven on 20 July 1765 in Augusta County Virginia and had these children;

1. Jane McGee, married Joseph Hendersen
2. Rachel McGee, married William McBeath
3. Hannah McGee, married Samuel Hutchinson
4. Mary"Polly" McGee, married 1st Joseph Heaven & 2nd Joseph McGee
5. John McGee, married Elizabeth Cox

Timeline

1764 - Robert McGee is referred to as s soldier in Virginia. The French and Indian war started in 1754 ended in 1763, and after that point there were still small skirmishes and in 1764 the army forced the Indians to cross the Ohio river thus ending the Indian depredations. Perhaps Robert took part both in these events.

29 March 1764 Estill vs Robert McGee state Robert McGee lived at Roanoke and was a soldier.
Later records show Robert supported the Tories during the Revolutionary war.

12 March 1765 - Processioner for Robert (in this case) - one appointed to examine and formally determine the limits of an area of land. Record of land owned by Robert.

20 July 1765 Robert and Jane are married.

Records show that between 1765-1803, Robert McGee lived in Virginia and owned property in Roanoke, Augusta, Botetourt, and Montgomery where he resided and bought and sold property.

1766 Land Indenture Goose Creek John Henderson deposes 10th March 1767 that in 1766 he purchased through Robert McGee for George Pearis a tract of land on North Fork Roanoke alias Goose Creek.

Survey 6 November 1767 on North Fork, Roanoke, Virginia, Robert McGee owns land that is bordered by John Heaven, a relation of Robert's wife Jane Haven-McGee.

1769 Record of Robert buying land in Botetourt County, Virginia, USA

1771 Records show Robert McGee lived Botetourt and Montgomery Co Va Botetourt Co. Va

1775 Robert sold land he owned on the north branch of the Roanoke River to Robert Henderson and purchased 350 acres on the waters of Tom's Creek

Robert McGee was a loyalist

1780 ~ Through the summer of 1780 there was some Tory sentiment in all the frontier counties, partly among the natives and partly in groups of disaffected citizens from other parts of the state. Col. Preston was instrument in capturing and punishing some of the citizens of Botetourt and Montgomery Counties, and referred to the Governor the question of the sale of their effects. Among those held for trial were, Col. William Ingles, John and Joseph McDonald, John Henderson, Walter Stewart, Samuel Robinson, John Haven, James Haven and William Haven, Robert King, Frederick Smith and Robert McGee. (Kegley's Virginia Frontier, pg 654) Following the confessions, Montgomery & Botetourt Counties proceeded to bring these persons to trial for misbehavior and treason against the state. The action taken by the court varied from posting bond to going to "gaol" in Augusta to enlisting in the Continental Army, to receiving thirty-nine lashes.

** 26 July 1780 Bond For Good Behavior ~ Robert McGee, his brother James McGee, and John Henderson gave bond to Thomas Jefferson who was then Govt. of Virginia for good behavior of Robert McGee (Loyalist) Robert was not convinced that succession from England was good and he got in trouble for his views and participation.

2 August 1784 Robert and his wife Jane sold 140 acres (part of Toms' Creek) to Robert Richey -8/2/1784 Robert McGee and wife Jane as grantors to Robert Richey 140 acres.

1798 Tax List Robert McGee is found with 210 acres in Montgomery County

1799 Tax List Robert McGee is found with 210 acres in Montgomery County

Circa 1799/1800 Robert moves to Kentucky

1800 Land was sold to John Slusher and Jacob Olinger. At this time on this deed John McGee son of Robert of Montgomery Co Va acted as his agent and atty as Robert was going back and forth from Virginia to Kentucky.

14 February 1803 Robert McGee officially appoints his son John McGee as his Attorney. Robert is moving from Virginia to Kentucky and entrusts his son as atty to sell of lands for him in Virginia.

30 April 1804 Land Indenture, Thirtieth day of April in the year one thousand eight hundred and four between Robert McGee of the State of Kentucky and John McGee of Montgomery and State of Virginia Attorney in fact for Robert McGee of the one part and Christopher Ribble.

1804-1820 Robert McGee make his home and lives in Wayne County Kentucky.

15 March 1806, William McBeath purchases 300 acres of land from Robert McGee in Wayne County, Kentucky on the Meadow Creek. (William is Robert's son-in-law by his marriage to Robert's daughter Rachel.

26 May 1806 Wayne County Tax List- Robert McGee is found in Wayne County with 12? acres (hard to read) in Meadow Creek.

6 March 1807 Land Indenture Deed Book A, pages 233-234. Robert McGee of Wayne County and State of Kentucky of the one part and Archible Wood. (Land Robert had purchased from Thomas Young) Thomas Young is very probably a relation to Robert's brother-in-law Charles Young married to Robert's sister Jane.

1814 through 1816 Robert McGee is found living in Wayne County with 300 acres on Meadow Creek (patented from Thomas Young), living next to his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Cox-McGee.

1819 - Robert McGee is shown with 348 acres on Meadow Creek patented from Thomas Young next to Elizabeth McGee (his daughter in law) with 200 acres.

1820 Robert McGee is shown without property next to his daughter-in-law Elizabeth McGee who is shown with 200 acres on Cumberland River patented to S. Cooper.

* Robert McGee died sometime after 1820 because he was listed in Tax list in Wayne County up to that date but not after, nor any other record.

Robert McGee (no known middle name) was born ca. 1738 in Ireland and died after 1820 in Wayne Kentucky. This Robert McGee married Jane Haven and he was the father of Rachel, John, Hannah, Jane and Mary "Molly" McGee. This Robert McGee had four brothers John, James, David and William and one sister who stayed in Ireland named Jane. This Robert is one of the "Five McGee Brothers" who came from Ireland.

Robert Furman McGee was born on 23 November 1883 in South Carolina and died on 20 Jul 1968 in South Carolina. This Robert was born about 145 years after the other Robert! Robert Furman McGee married Jane Elizabeth Townsend who was born on 23 Oct 1888 and died on 10 Aug 1968. They had sons John Thomas McGee and Robert McGee. This Robert Furman McGee was the son of John Robert McGee and Jessie Lenora Walker.
