Father of the Five McGee Brothers from Ireland

Note: His wife's name is unknown, NOT Elizabeth Pettigrew

Robert Magee/McGee was born in circa 1696/7 in Donagheady, Ulster Ireland, he is the son of another Robert Magee and Margaret Killgore . Robert had at least one known sibling, a younger brother named George McGee born in 1698.

While living in Ireland, Robert married circa 1733 an Irish woman, her name is unknown, (Could possibly be Rachel or Jane) ( Note: Robert's wife's name was NOT Elizabeth Stokley or Ann DeJarnet)

Robert and his wife had at least six children, a daughter named Jane McGee who stayed behind in Ireland, and was the wife of the Reverend Charles Young. Though Jane and Charles stayed in Ireland at least two of their children immigrated to America, James and John Young.

Robert and his wife also had five sons who would later immigrate to America with them, these sons are known as "The Five McGee Brothers from Ireland."

1. John McGee married Mary McCoun
2. Robert McGee married Jane Heaven(his name is not Robert Furman)
3. James McGee married Mary "Molly"
4. David McGee married Jean Robinson
5. William McGee died unmarried without issue

Immigration to America

In circa 1756 Robert McGee his wife and their sons immigrated to America. The family first settled in Virginia, where Robert and his wife purchased land and most probably built a cabin to live in. Robert and his wife's land was likely on the North Roanoke, in the Catawba Creek area near or adjoining the lands that their son Robert McGee later purchased. All or at least the younger McGee sons probably lived with them at this time as they would still have been to young to be on their own.

On 14 Jul 1760 Robert McGee was called as testee - Power of Attorney William Grahames to bring suite against John Mills to recover and make conveyance to Joshua McCormick. "Whereas John Mills did on 9th February, 1752, agree to convey to Joshua McCormick title for property to Joshua, on 23 Feb 1753 signed his right to David Robinson, late of Augusta County, now of Garden Township PA. etc." Testee: Robert McGee (and others) - (Note: David Robinson was related to Jean Robinson who was Robert McGee's daughter-in-law, wife of Robert's son David McGee.)

In May of 1765 Robert McGee is declared exempt from levy in Augusta County, Virginia do to great age and infirmity.

*** There are no more records for Robert McGee after this point so it is not known if Robert McGee died in Virginia or later when the family moves to Kentucky.

Circa 1775 the McGees or at least mother McGee, (Robert's wife) moves to Kentucky with son David McGee, who between the years of 1775 and 1779 purchases land, builds a cabin, makes improvements and he establishes the "David McGee Station" in circa 1779. While son David McGee is building McGee Station the family stayed at Boonesborough.

It is not known when Robert's wife Mrs. McGee died but it was after 1780 because in a public lawsuit, the court transcripts have one John Plankenstalver quoted as saying that he talked with David MGee's mother in 1780 she talked with him about her "son David's land and Improvements."

Note: The research in both Ireland and the USA by Bill and Jerry McGee, has proven that the parents of the Five McGee was Robert McGee and his Irish wife Mrs. Unknown McGee

The parents of the Five McGee brothers was NOT a John and Elizabeth or John and Ann DeJarnet. These people do not exist, Ann DeJarnet is a myth! The DeJarnet family is French, the McGees are Irish. There are no sources or documents to show that Ann DeJarnet ever existed. Jean (John) DeJarnet, is said to be the supposed father of Ann DeJarnet and while there are records to document his other children there are none for Ann and she is not named in records as one of the children of Jean DeJarnet. In fact there are no records at all to show that Ann DeJarnet ever existed and she was absolutely NOT the mother of the McGee children or the wife of Robert.

***The McGee's and their mother are Irish and Mrs. McGee came to America from Ireland with her husband and sons.

* The difficulty in finding the parents and other records related to the five McGee brothers, (The records for Donagheady Parish are not complete and there are no records of baptisms before 1697 nor between 1723-1753, key years for this purpose). It was important to find other records in Ireland here in the United States
