"In 1773, two of John McGee's brothers-in-law, James McCoun and Robert McAfee (whose wife was Anne McCoun), came to Kentucky from Botetourt Co, VA. They and others in the company came to Kentucky to survey lands for themselves and their relatives. They surveyed 1000 acres for John McGee on both sides of Salt River." Weather, Indian troubles and other problems prevented them from making settlement until 1779, when they moved their families and posessions to Mercer Co.
