George Fred Puhrmann Sr., of Martin and Johanna (Gerdes) Puhrmann, was born July 23, 1878, in Cook County, Illinois. He was baptized Sept. 8, and confirmed April 2, 1893, at St. Paul Lutheran church, Homewood, Illinois.

The family came to Iowa, in 1894, settling on a farm northwest of Paullina in Baker Township. On Jan. 27, 1904, he was married to Emma Beermann at the home of her parents. They farmed in Baker Township until 1939, when they retired and moved to Paullina. They were the parents of 13 children.

He died Jan. 9, 1964, at the age of 85 years, five months, and 16 days.

Survivors include his wife Emma; 11 children, Elsie (Mrs. William J. Miller), Bently, Raymond, Martin, Lee, and Ralph all of Paullina, George Jr. of Larrabee, Gladys (Mrs. Julius Muhs) of Hartley, Emily (Mrs. Clarence Meyer) of Granville. Ruth (Mrs. Frank Ahrens) of Ostrander, Minn., and June (MRS. Clifford Miller) of Cleghorn; thirty-six grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Martha (Mrs. William Stover), Hospers, Frances (Mrs. Harry Sylvester) of Charles City, and Annis (Mrs. Albert Strampe); and a brother, William, of Charles City also survive.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Molley, three brothers, Herman, Louis and Alvin; two sons; and a grand-daughter, Arlene Miller.
