PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME TUESDAY MORNING
HAD BEEN ILL A LONG TIME
Estimable Lady Relieved by Death after a Long Period of Suffering - Funeral Yesterday
The community was grieved and shocked, though not greatly surprised, Tuesday noon to learn of the death of Mrs. Martin Puhrmann at her home in the north part of town. The family being a prominent one in the community and in the German Lutheran church, a large number of persons had a feeling as of a personal loss. The following obituary is furnished us:
Mrs. Johanna Puhrmann, nee Giertz was born July 15, 1858, In Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany. When 12 years of age her parents brought her to America, locating in Cook County, Illinois. October 21, 1877, she was married to Martin Puhrmann. They resided in Cook County until 1894, when they moved to O'Brien County and six years ago they moved to Paullina. This happy marriage was blessed with nine children, eight of whom survive the mother.
The deceased woman had to endure much suffering during her life. At various times she was confined to her bed for periods of several weeks. Her last illness began about June 15. She was a patient sufferer, but was glad to be relieved. She lived to be 53 years and one month old. Her death is mourned by the sorrowing husband, eight children, thirteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church yesterday afternoon, August 18. Revs. Ilten of Marcus, and Semmann of Paullina, officiating.
