Ella Arts was the daughter of Henry and Augusta Gauthier Arts. She married Clyde O. Carpenter. Their children were James, Virginia (Mrs. Martin Foley), Louise (Mrs. Norman Jungers, Mary Jane (Mrs. Dennis White) and Mildred (Mrs. William Coughlin).

OBITUARY: MARSHALLTOWN TIMES-REPUBLICAN - SUNDAY - 9 SEPTEMBER 1956 - PAGE 5 - MRS. CARPENTER DIES SUNDAY - AT AGE OF 77 - Mrs. Clyde O. Carpenter, 77, 1009 W. Nevada St., long time resident of Marshalltown, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at Mercy Hospital where she had been a patient for a week. She was born March 14, 1879 at Galena, Ill., daughter of Henry and Augusta Gautier Arts, and was married in Marshalltown July 11, 1906 to Clyde O. Carpenter. The couple celebrated their golden anniversary in July. Surviving are the widower, a son, James W. Carpenter of Farmington, N. M; and four daughters, Mrs. Martin Foley, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Norman Jungers, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Dennis White, San Jose, Calif.; and Mrs. William Couglin, Marshalltown. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Tony Blaschke of Marshalltown and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by nine sisters. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth's Society. The society will recite the Rosary at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Avey Funeral Home and a public Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
