OBITUARY: MARSHALLTOWN TIMES-REPUBLICAN - SATURDAY - 27 JANUARY 1968 - PAGE 11, COL 1 - C. O. CARPENTER DIES AT AGE 83; SERVICES MONDAY - Clyde O. Carpenter, 83, 304 N. 1st St., died at 5:15 p.m. Friday at the Westwood Nursing Home where he had been a patient for the past week. He had been in failing health for three months. He was born in Marshalltown July 7, 1884, the son of Charles and Henrietta Drew Carpenter. He received his education in the city schools. He was married to Ella Arts in Marshalltown July 11, 1906. She preceded him in death in September, 1956. His second marriage was to Mrs. Rachel Leonard Hof, Jan 9, 1960, in Marshalltown. She survives, as do five children from his first marriage. James Carpenter, Farmington, N. M.; Mrs. Martin (Virginia) Foley, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. William (Mildred) Koughlin, Marshalltown; Mrs. Mary Jane White, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Norman (Louise) Yunger, Southgate, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and a sister, Leota, in California. A stepson and four stepdaughters also, survive. Mr. Carpenter was also preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Friends may call at the Avey Funeral Home where services have been set for 1:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Robert MacCanon in charge. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
