Henry Arts was the son of Anthon Arts and Marie Welp. He married Augusta C. Gauthier. Their children were Mary Emilie, Julia Adeline, Louise Sophia, Catharine J., Augusta M., Rosalyn Christina, Ella, Helen Elizabeth, Theresa Louise, Bertha May and Emma Arts. Henry was a farmer and later a grocer.

OBITUARY: MARSHALLTOWN TIMES REPUBLICAN, MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA, 9 AUGUST 1904 - PAGE 7 - OBITUARY - ARTS - Henry Arts, a well-known resident of the city, and for ten years past a grocer located at 310 West Railroad street, died at his home, 308 West Railroad, at 7:05 Monday evening, after a two weeks' illness. Carbuncles on the back, following diabetes, with which Mr. Arts had been suffering for some time. Mr. Arts was born May 6, 1842, in Jo Daviess county, Illinois, and for the past twenty-two years has made his home in this county. Upon coming to the county Mr. Arts located in Melbourne, where he lived two years. Seven years following his removal from Melbourne were spent on a farm near Haverhill, and twelve years ago he came to Marshalltown, engaging in the grocery business two years later. Mr. Arts was married at Sinsinawa Mound, Wis., May 4, 1962, to Miss Augusta Gautier, who survives him, together with nine daughters. The latter are Mrs. Nick Neuroth, of Granville; Mrs. Henry Kobbe, residing four miles west of the city; Mrs. A. Lang, Mrs. Teresa Parks, Mrs. Emil Seleine, and Louise, Ella, Bertha and Emma Arts, all of this city. One brother, William Arts, of Carroll, also survives the desceased. Mr. Arts was a devout member of St. Mary's Church, a good Christian and a kind and loving husband and father. The funeral will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Mary's church, conducted by Rev. L. J. Tobin, curate of St. Mary's. The house will be open to friends Wednesday afternoon from 2 until 4 in the evening from 7:30 to 10 o'clock.
