"S. J. WEST

Another one of the pioneers who came to this valley two score of years ago has answered death's call. S[imon] J[eptha] West, a native of Mississippi, age 65 years, who came to San Bernardino valley in 1856 by ox team, has resided here 61 years. He passed on yesterday. He is survived by three brothers, J[ames] M[onroe] West, city marshal of Needles; T[homas] J[efferson] West of Fresno, George W[ashington] West of this city and three sisters, Mrs. W[illiam] H[unt] Mee [nee Sarah Jane West], Mrs. C[harles] A[lbert] More [nee Nancy Abigail West] of this city [San Bernardino] and Mrs. R. J. Arey of Los Angeles. The funeral will be held Saturday, the exact hour not being set.

The J. D. McDonald company has charge of the arrangements."

The funeral service of the late Simon J[eptha] ("Jep") West, who died Thursday after a residence of more than two score of years in San Bernardino valley, will be held this afternoon from the parlors of the J. D. McDonald company. Rev. William Clark Geyer, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Many pioneer residents of the city and valley will attend the last services. Interment will be in the city cemetery."

"DIED. WEST - In San Bernardino, California, Thursday, March 8, 1917, S. J. West, age 65 years, native of Mississippi.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the parlors of the J. D. McDonald company. Interment will be in the City cemetery."
