John W. Sickles, son of John and Lydia Sickles, was born Jan. 31st, 1852, in Williams County, Ohio. After an illness of a few hours, he passed away at his home in Otsego township, Metz, Ind. Feb. 24, 1939, at the age of 87 years and 24 days. March 29, 1874, he was united in marriage to Emma Tingler. To this union three sons were born, Ora, Clair and Erva. Ora and Erva preceded their father in death. Mr. Sickles, with his bride of a few months, moved into his late home in November, 1874. There for nearly 65 years they have walked life’s pathway together.
In 1878, he was united with the North Otsego Methodist church to which he remained a faithful member until the class was disbanded. He lived a consistent Christian life, and was a great lover of his home.
He leaves his faithful wife, one son, Clair, of Colorado Springs, 5 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Elnora Terpining of Findlay, Ohio, besides other more distant relatives and many friends. The funeral was held at his late home Sunday, Feb. 26, Rev. Ralph Morse officiating. Burial at South Scott.
