SARAH ANN POWELL
Sarah Ann Powell was born near Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana, Apr. 13, 1840. She was married to William DeWeese, Mar. 14, 1857. To this union seven children were born, four sons and three daughters. She moved with her family to Chariton County and settled on a farm near Indian Grove in the Autumn of 1871, where she lived until the death of her husband a few years ago, since which time she has lived a part of the time with her son, Cornelius, at Huntsville, where she died May 23, aged 79 years, 1 month and 10 days.
She was converted and united with the Christian Church at Old Union, near Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana in January 1863. She was a charter member of the Indian Grove Christian Church and gave her hearty support from the time of it's organization in 1873 to the day of her death. Her remains were brought to Indian Grove Sunday, May 25, where funeral services were held after which was all mortal of Aunt Sarah DeWeese was tenderly laid to rest beside her husband to await the resurrection of the just.
A large congregation of people was present to bear witness to the high esteem in which she was held where she had lived for so many years.
She leaves to mourn their loss three sons and two daughters (one son and one daughter having gone before), two brothers, one half-brother, three half-sisters, 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. CARTER DEWEESE
