FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ELBERT DEWEESE DEC. 9
Elbert DeWeese, elderly resident of the Indian Grove neighborhood, died at the Nelse Bennett home there Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1954, after a short illness. Mr. DeWeese was a well-known and respected member of this community, having lived there since 1872 and being engaged in farming since early manhood.
Elbert DeWeese was born in Boone County, Indiana on Oct. 20, 1867, the son of William and Sarah (Powell) DeWeese. He came to Chariton County with his parents at the age of four years and lived in the vicinity of Indian Grove until his death.
He was married to Miss Margaret Heaney of Mendon on Dec. 31, 1880. Six children were born to this union. Two sons, Delmar and Urban, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of Indian Grove; two sons, Edward of Brunswick, and George of Licking, Missouri; and two daughters, Mrs. Clarence DeRigne of Huntsville, and Mrs. Robert Tilden of Moberly. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Mr. DeWeese joined the Powell Christian Church at the age of 18 and remained a faithful member until his death occurred.
Funeral services were held from the Powell church Thursday morning with interment in the church cemetery.
