CHARLES POWELL
Died, on Sunday night, at 12:00 o'clock, May 21st, at his home one mile east of Indian Grove, Charles Powell, familiarly known as "Grandpa Powell", quietly passed away to that home above. He was born in Kentucky, Oct. 18th, 1815, and was 83 years, 7 months and 3 days old at the time of his death.
He moved from Kentucky to Indiana with his parents in early youth, and came from there in 1875 and settled in Missouri on the place where he died. He was twice married, both times in Indiana. He was the father of thirteen children, four of this number having preceded him to the better world, while nine survive him, these with his wife remain to mourn his loss and hope for a reunion in Heaven.
He was stricken with palsy on Friday night and was unconscious up to the time of his death. He had been in feeble health for several years, and had expressed himself as being ready and anxious to go. He was highly esteemed as a father, husband and friend, and served his church and community as a faithful Christian and an honorable citizen. The high esteem in which he was held by all who knew him was evidence by the many who attended his funeral. His funeral was preached on Tuesday at 11:00 o'clock at Powell Church, after which the remains, followed by a large crowd of sorrowing and sympathizing friends, were laid to rest in Powell Cemetery to await the resurrection of the just. To his bereaved wife and children, we only say, follow him as he followed Christ, and by and by you will overtake him in that land where farewells are never said. May he with the dear ones that have gone before, and those that remain without the loss of one, meet again in "Our Father's House". A FRIEND
*NOTE*: Married 1st wife Lydia West May 17, 1838 in Boone Co. IN.
