Alice Howell was born January 1856 in Ball Hollow, LaRue County, Kentucky. Having appeared in the 1900 Federal Census, she died after 1900 and before 1910. She is buried in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in a gravesite beside her mother, Cinderella Howell. Her father was William C. (Curley Bill) Thompson. She never used the Thompson name. Curley Bill Thompson was killed by rebel guerillas at his home in Green County during the Civil War and is buried in Sand Lick Baptist Church cemetery
Alice never married. However, she was the mother of 3 children. The father of her children was Jim Asa Johnson, AKA Black Jim Johnson
1. Josie Howell, my grandmother (Russell Perkins). Her full name was Hannah Josephine Howell Perkins. She is buried here in Pleasant Ridges Cemetery as well.
2. Pate Howell. Her full name was Cleopatra Howell, Aka Patri, Pate. She married Luther Hayes Johnson and is also buried here in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
3. Fannie M. Howell. She married John W. Cunningham. Her death date is not recorded but she was still in the Louisville City Directory in 1949. Family members state she was buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
A fourth child James William (Ball Hollow Bill) Howell was born in 1890. His father was James Asa (Black Jim) Johnson.
Her full name was Martha Alice Howell. Her name was written as Alis Howell in the 1899-1900 school census for LaRue County. In 1900 she was listed as Alice Howell and a servant in a boarding house in Hodgenville, operated by Sue Hayes. Her birth date was given as Jan 1856 and her age as 46. She was single.
