The "First Lady", as she was affectionately called by her loving husband Paul, Phyllis Sammie Clyde Beck left this life, Saturday, April 13, 2013. Although we are saddened by her passing, we are comforted in the knowledge that she is experiencing a great reunion with family and friends who have been awaiting her arrival; her mother and step father Luella and Canute Brienholt, her father Robert Earl Clyde, brothers and sisters William and Robert Clyde, Margaret Rasband, Deaun Haueter, Eva Lewis and great-granddaughters Zoe Belnap and Chloe Ella Howell.
She was born and had fond childhood memories growing up in Heber City, Utah. She maintained close relationships with classmates from her alma mater, Wasatch High School, where she was an enthusiastic drummer in the marching band. While attending BYU she fell in love with Paul A. Beck and married him in the Salt Lake Temple. Together "Team Beck" accomplished many great acts of service and kindness to all they met.
She truly embodied and lived a life of service and compassion, following the example of the Savior Jesus Christ. We will miss her vibrant innate love of life, and selfless devotion to God, country and family. People from all walks of life gravitated to her warmth and love of people. She created laughter and a sense of belonging to all.
She leaves a lasting legacy of faithful devotion and commitment to her LDS beliefs serving in many capacities but especially enjoying teaching the youth of the church, watching scores of young men and young women going on to serve missions and being married in the temple.
Together with her sweetheart, Paul, she served an LDS mission to St. Kitts, West Indies. Her loving influence touched the lives of so many which endeared her to all. There she made many lifelong friends where her influence will live on.
Her family was always first and foremost in her thoughts and prayers. She was an interested and active advocate for each family member and was an example to her posterity of integrity, unconditional love, and faithful devotion and commitment to God. She leaves an example of a life well lived and represents the best that is in all of us.
Left to carry on her legacy are: Paul Alton Beck, 64 years her sweetheart; Robyn (Bruce) Brown; Kelly (Rebecca) Beck; Nancy Rounds; Carla (Terry) Howell; Tim Beck; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gundersen Lane LDS Chapel, 1925 East Gundersen Lane (4101 South), Holladay, Utah. Viewings will be held Wednesday evening, April 17, 2013 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary 3251 South 2300 East, and Thursday at the Gundersen Lane Chapel from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral services.
