Ex-Alaskan Steamer Crewman Dies at 65
Services will be held later this week in Glenallen, Alaska, for Arnold Engebretson, 65, Glenallen, formerly of Rockford and Davis Junction. He died Saturday in the Veterans Administration Hospital, LaJolla, Calif., after a long illness.

An enthusiastic booster for Alaska during several visits to relatives in the Rockford area, he had lived there since 1940, when he went on his first visit, finding a job on a steamer on the Kuskoskwim River.

He later completed his World War II Army service in Alaska and continued to reside there. He formerly was a service oiler for a road contracting firm.

He had farmed in Davis Junction area before his first trip to Alaska. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Engebretson.

Survivors include his widow, Martha; two sons, Arnold Jr. and John, both of Anchorage, Alaska; six daughters, Mrs. Shirley Collins, Fairbanks, Alaska, Mrs. Dorothy Blair, Rockford, Mrs. Hedy Rankin, Anchorage, Mrs. Sue Pereria, Cottonwood, Calif., Mrs. Geraldine Bowen, McArthur, Calif., and Mrs. Darlene Jacobson, San Diego; and 17 grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Dean and Shirley, Jr., both of San Diego, and Lloyd, El Cajon, Calif., and three sisters, Mrs. Lois Baxter, La Palma, Calif., Mrs. Norma Beard, Rockford, and Mrs. Geraldine Goad, Panama, Okla.

Memorials may be sent to Faith Hospital, Glenallen, in his name.
