Dortha Jean Martz, 76, of Dayton, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Dortha was born in Rockingham County on March 21, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Roy Franklin and Roxie Marie (Revercomb) Caricofe.
She worked in the food service in the Prince William County School System in Northern Virginia. When she moved back to this area, she worked at the Auto Auction. She was a member of Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren in Bridgewater.
She was united in marriage March 20, 1950, to Eugene Martz of Dayton, who survives.
Dortha is also survived by three sons and their wives, Ronald W. Martz and wife, Bonnie, of Staunton, James F. Martz and wife, Benita, of Aldie, and Jerry W. Martz and wife, Ruth, of Nokesville; one brother, Roy "Buster" Caricofe and wife, Trudy, of Bridgewater. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kimmie Fetters, Will Martz and Tiffany Martz
A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel, Bridgewater, with the Rev. William Garber officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery, Dayton, Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.
