Born Feb. 15, 1925, in Tuscarora, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Homer S. and Mary Jane (Sheaffer) Rice. His wife, Ethel A. (Leister) Rice, whom he married Feb. 19, 1946, survives.
Also surviving are: children, John H. Rice, Port Royal, Samuel David Rice, Mount Union, Richard H. Rice, Cynthia A. Pannebaker, Hazel J. Rauch, all of Port Royal RR3, James L. Rice, Mifflin HC67, Connie Gloss, Honey Grove RR1, and Janet M. Zeiders, Mifflintown; brother and sisters, Shelley Rice and Dorothy Beasom, both of Port Royal RR3, and Mary Jane Varner, McAlisterville; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He was a retired cabinet maker.
He attended Cornerstone Community Church, Mifflintown RR4.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Albert Gray, the Rev. William Luckadoo and the Rev. Charles Sheaffer officiating. Interment was in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown RR4, with full military honors conducted by the Juniata County Veteran's Council.
