Dorothy M. "Dot" Beasom, 88, of Tuscarora, Juniata County, passed away at 5:26 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born in Turbett Township, Juniata County, on June 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Homer S. and Mary Jane (Sheaffer) Rice.

Her husband, Herbert F. Beasom, whom she married on April 27, 1946, survives.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Carol A. Zeiders and husband, Gary B., of Mifflintown, and Deborah J. Parson, of Port Royal; three grandsons, Jeffrey Zeiders, of Mifflintown, Don Zeiders, of Frederick, Maryland, and Shawn Parson, of Honey Grove; and five great-grandchildren, Hannah Zeiders, Colin Parson, Cassi Parson, Alyssa Zeiders, and Jonah Zeiders.

Preceding her in death were five brothers and sisters, Jennie Haas, Harold "Henny" Rice, Eleanor "Peg" Welshonse, H. Shelley Rice, and Mary Jane Varner.

In 1944, she graduated from Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal, where she volunteered as a "lookout" for airplanes during WWII.

She worked for the former Kilmer's Restaurant, Port Royal, and the former Beasom's Restaurant, Mifflintown. Later, she retired from the Juniata County School District as a head cook for the Tuscarora Valley Elementary School, Port Royal, where she was affectionately known as "Aunt Dot" to all the students.

Mrs. Beasom was a member of the Tuscarora Church of the Brethren, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and secretary/treasurer.

Dorothy enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, and baking chocolate chip cookies for her grandsons and great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Leon S. Davis and the Rev. Charles Sheaffer officiating.

Interment will take place in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's name may be made to Tuscarora Church of the Brethren Building Fund, c/o Karen Beasom, 1324 Town Ridge Road, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
