WASHINGTON, Pa. – Jesse J. Briggs Sr., 75, of 710 Ewing St., Washington, Pa., died unexpectedly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lance Lambert of 601 Beech St., Washington, Wednesday, June 25, at 7:20 a.m. Born at Mt. Union Sept. 19, 1882, he was a son of John H. and Elizabeth (Youtzy) Briggs, both now deceased. Mr. Briggs, a member of the Knights of Pythias, was a retired journeyman laundryman and worked as a foreman of Stevenson's Laundry, Washington, and most recently as foreman of the laundry at Canonsburg Generl Hospital, Canonsburg. He retired in 1955. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Harry P. (Catherine) Hinks, Clearfield; Charles W. Briggs, Washington; Mrs Paul (Eva) Riding, Renfrew; Mrs. Walter (Mary) Jones, Tiffin, Ohio; Jessie J. Briggs Jr., Canonsburg; and Mrs. Lance (Fern) Lambert, Washington. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Eva Briggs Hahn of Tyrone. Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Myrtle Anderson Briggs, April 25, 1907; and by his second wife, Mrs. Myrtle Howard Briggs, Aug. 29, 1939. Once brother and one sister also preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Hummeli Funeral Home, Washington, with Rev. Charles R. Graham, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment was in the Washington Cemetery.
