James Campbell 1754- 1840
Hello Vonnie! I descend from Ruth Campbell, daughter of James Campbell and Jane Sample(s).

I am looking for proof information to tie her to her parents.

I live in Jefferson City, Mo ...close to where Ruth Campbell Roark is buried and James Campbell jr.

Would appreciate any connections you could provide.

Thank you so much. When I was invited to join the UDC, I had just gotten married. We were living in Knoxville, TN. They wanted some "new blood"! The building they used still had mini balls in the stone. Wish I'd joined then. That was a really long time ago. The best news ever! When you gave me Melissa (spelled Malessie on the gravestone) Porter's name, it all fell into place, and I have correctly linked both my grandparents back to Leonard Rice! What a great feeling! I did have Robert in as possibility, and it was perfect! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Thanks again! I'll be toasting you with a glass of wine tonight! :-)

Thank you so much! Now I remember the name Melissa Porter!! I'll start connecting the info on F.A.G.
To be honest, I get so frustrated sometimes, I have to stop for a while, but it's so fascinating. I saw where the Rices are doing DNA testing. I haven't done that, but it might be fun! I had a hard time getting into the DAR site. I was invited to be a member of the UDC and the DAR, a long time ago, and didn't do it. Now, wish I had. You are just amazing. Thank you so much! Jane Leigh

My last message, I promise! I think old Peter just liked the stories about Sarah Shattuck and her family. They were pretty interesting, gory to say the least. I think, not positive, that my grandmother, last name Crittenden, had some people in SC. My mother's side of the family has been much easier. Those Rice's, in New England, had some pretty funny names! Even though not related, I enjoyed reading about them. Scalped, kidnapped by Indians, better than fiction! Have a great day, and good luck on your search. I wish I had more knowledge about doing all this!

Hysterical books for sure! I wss pretty sure all of the info before Leonard was wrong. I have one more favor. I am ashamed to ask this, as it's about my grandfather, Earl James Rice, born in Elbert County in 1880, died in Mt. Dora Fl, in 1951. He was married to Nancy Josephine Crittenden on Feb 14, 1904. I have all the info on her line, up to a point of course. I can't find any record of Earl James' parents anywhere. According to Peter Rice, cough, cough, the Rice lines meet here, and he is descended from Leonard (the rev. soldier). I was up until 0230 last night reading through information. I am totally addicted to this now. I should have started before I got old!! Thank you so much for your information. I have removed what I know to be incorrect. What a puzzle. Jane Leigh

Hey,Vonnie, hope you are still on F.A.G. Do you know if Leonard Rice's parents are Elijah and Sarah? I have a genealogy on the Rice family, published by Peter V Rice, in 1935. He says that Leonard is the 5th child of the marriage, and that he moved South as a very young man. That would put his birth in MA and not VA. I'm working on my family tree on a site, and want to get it all in there correctly. Thanks! Jane Leigh PS, It does give the history of his Revolutionary War Service, so I know it's the same Leonard.
