Obituary - Mercer County Chronicle
Charles H. Schwieterman, one of the best known and most progressive farmers of Marion Township, died at his home near Sebastian last Friday morning after an illness of eighteen months caused by an infected tooth resulting in sarcoma. He was confined to bed about three weeks prior to death. He was born near Sebastian on March 4, 1879, being 50 years, 6 months and 10 days, and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Schwieterman. On November 27, 1894, he was united in marriage at Sebastian to Miss Carolina Will and to them the following children were born: Charles, Raymond, Alvina, Elizabeth and Alma, at home; Julius Schwieterman, of Sebastian; Mrs. John Huwer, of Cranberry Prairie, and Mrs. Wm. Forsthoefel, of Carthagena . He is also survived by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Jos. Falke, of Coldwater; John G. Schwieterman, of St. Elizabeth, Missouri, and Frank A.C. Schwieterman, of near Montezuma. His widow and three grandchildren also survive. Mr. Schwieterman helped to organize the Farmers Bank at Chickasaw and was its president at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Celina Council, No. 1800 K. of C., a member for several years of St. Sebastian choir, served as warden of the church , and was a steadfast and faithful member of the St. Sebastian Catholic church. Also a member of St. Joseph's Men's Society, and for several years served as a member of the school board of his district. Mr. Schwieterman was a kind and devoted husband and father, an excellent neighbor and upright and honest in every transaction with his fellowmen. He was a progressive farmer and took great interest in agricultural affairs and farmers institutes. His death is not only a distinct loss to his family but is keenly felt by everyone who knew him. Funeral services were held at the St. Sebastian church last Tuesday morning, Rev. Roman Schwieterman, a cousin of the deceased, officiating, assisted by Rev. Sailer, a near friend, and Rev. Jos. M. Hare, his pastor. The funeral was one of the largest ever held at Sebastian. Burial was at the Sebastian cemetery. Mrs. Schwieterman and children desire to sincerely thank all neighbors and friends for their kindness during the illness and death of their beloved husband and father. Rev. Jos. M. Hare for his many visits and hopeful words; the donors of floral offerings and spiritual bouquets, donors of autos for the funeral and Romer Bros., undertakers, for their efficient services.
