Jarvis P. Palmer

Jarvis Page Palmer, 57, of 1606 9th, was dead on arrival Monday at the McKay Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Mr. Palmer was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Holbrook, Idaho, a son of William and Phyllis Louisa Page Palmer.

He was married to Mona Smith in the Logan LDS Temple. They were later divorced. He was married to Viva Oldroyd on July 29, 1965, in the Manti LDS Temple.

He was a director of the Utah State Division of Aging for two years.

He had taught in the Westside High School in Dayton, Idaho, and also in Weber, Ogden and Davis school districts. He had been a music teacher in the Centerville Junior High School.

He was a member of the National Music Education Association, and the National Association of Band Directors.

He served in the Air Force in World War II and had lived in Holbrook, Dayton and Preston, Idaho, coming to Ogden in 1945.

He graduated from the University of Idaho in Moscow and received a masters degree from Utah State University in 1964 and a PhD from USU in 1967.

He was a member of the 45th LDS Ward and was counselor to the high priests group. He served a mission to the Northwestern States. He had been in the bishopric of the Bonneville Park Ward, and had been a Sunday School teacher, high priest group leader, home teacher ward chorister, president of the MIA. He served on the Lorin Farr Stake MIA board and had been active in scouting and temple work.

Surviving are his widow of Ogden; four sons and two daughters, Jarvis Daniel Palmer, Taylor; Larry Page Palmer, Roy; Arnold Paige Palmer, serving an LDS mission in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Mark Todd Palmer, Miss Patti Palmer, Miss Collette Palmer, all of Ogden; four grandchildren.

Also surviving are five brothers and three sisters, James William Palmer, Mrs. Suel (Willa Gae) Murdock, both of Preston, Idaho; DeLamar Palmer, Kaysville; Darrel Palmer, Fortuna, Calif.; Lavon Palmer, Douglas Page Palmer, both of Ogden; Mrs. Homer (Ruby) Williams, Boise, Idaho; Mr. John (Ruth) Berg, Firth, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the 45th Ward Chapel, 880 Harrison, with Bishop Calvin Toone officiating.

Friends may call at Lindquist and Sons Mortuary Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel Thursday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Interment in Washington Heights Memorial Park.
