Mrs. Lena Schuette Passes Last Thursday

Mrs. Lena Schuette passed away at her home in Postville, Friday, May 27 at 8:15 a.m.

She was born in Garnavillo, Iowa, June 1, 1854. Her maiden name was Lena Pupke. She was baptized at the Evangelical church in Garnavillo and confirmed at the altar of the same church on Palm Sunday, April 14, 1867.

April 25, 1873, she was married to Henry Schuette. Under God they were permitted to travel their earthly pilgrimage together for 56 years, her husband preceding her in death three years ago. This union was blessed with three children.

The family lived in Garnavillo up to the year 1893 when they moved to Postville, where they have resided ever since.

The departed was a good Christian mother, loving and being loved, and her children will ever call her memory blessed. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church of Postville, of which her late husband was the builder, faithfully attending divine services and regularly communing at its altar. She was an honored member of St. Paul's Ladies' Aid Society, whose meetings it was her joy to attend. She was held in high esteem and love by neighbors and friends.

She leaves to mourn her loss three children, Mrs. Anna Blaha of Monona, Henry J. and Mrs. Delia Stone, both of Postville, three grandchildren and many friends.
She was aged 78 years less 5 days.

The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in this city at two o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. R.B. Garten officiating, and the many sympathizing friends in attendance and the numerous beautiful floral offerings all testified to the high esteem in which she was held in this community. Interment was made in the family plot in Postville cemetery.
