MRS. CLAUS OELKERS DEAD
Mrs. Claus Oelkers, who lived at 520 South Union, died Wednesday night at 10:20 o'clock at the Newman Memorial County hospital. Funeral arrangements have not been made. Mrs. Claus Oelkers, whose maiden name was Minnie Pupka, was born December 2, 1855, at Clayton county, Iowa. She was married to Claus Oelkers July 12, 1874, at Clay county. Mr. and Mrs. Oelkers came to Kansas in 1878 to live at Ness City. In 1895 they moved to Emporia. Mrs. Oelkers was a member of the Lutheran church. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Monroe Parret, Emporia; one son, Frank Oelkers, Emporia, two grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Pupka, of Emporia; and Mrs. Lena Schutter (sic), of Postville, Iowa.
Services for Mrs. Claud Oelker, who lived at 520 South Union, died last Wednesday in the Newman Memorial County hospital, were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at St. Mark's Lutheran church. Rev. W. J. Boldt, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Mrs. Porter Clark sang, accompanied by Miss Bernice Milner. Interment was in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Hancock, George Sleisher, Frank Gray, James Workman, Charles Workman and C. A. Bishop.
Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Oelker and Mr. and Mrs. John Oelker, of McCracken; Detric Oelker, Metia Oelker and Blanche Oelker, of Clyde; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burke, of Bonner Springs, and Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Plummer and son Wendel, and Nettie Wheelork, of Cherryvale.
