GONE HENCE

Demise of Capt. S.E. Northington Yesterday Afternoon

One by one living crease from their activities and pass beyond into the great hereafter. So easily many the feeble cord be broken , and life becomes extinct, that death has many and frequent victories among us.

The death of Cap. S.E. Northington, father of the well known dentist, was as sudden as it was unexpected. A man generally robust and apparently healthy, he was seen on the streets only a few days ago, and now lies still and cold in death. He was first taken sick last Wednesday. The first symptoms were those of a heavy chill. This as followed soon afterwards by a deep stupor which lasted until Thursday, when he livened up and came to himself again. On Saturday morning another stupor came on, and he gradually grew worse. During the day he had a high fever and was very restless. He gradually sank on Monday until he was relieved by death, caused by typhoid fever, at 12 o'clock Tuesday noon.

The deceased was sixty-four years of age, and came to Emporia in the spring of 1880 from eastern Tennessee. During his residence here he has lived a retired life, enjoying the society of his children and loved ones.

Besides his wife, nine children, seven boys and two girls, are left to remember his ministering unto them as a kind and indulgent father. The funeral services were held at half past two o'clock Wednesday from his late residence, 24 Rural street. The interment was at Maplewood cemetery. During his early life, Capt. Northington was a hale and hearty man. While serving his country during the war however, he was exposed and his system injured. For four years he served Company I of the 13th Tennessee Cavalry, as its captain. He was a man of very decided opinions, and was one of the most pronounced republicans possible to meet.

The friends of the family extend to the afflicted family the sympathy which an affliction of this nature suggests.
