Peter J. Hockensmith, 78, of 336 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, died Tuesday, April 20, at Hanover Hall. Born in Brushtown, he was the son of the late Basil A. and Mary C. Hufnagel Hockensmith. He was the husband of Doris M. Noel Hockensmith.
Mr. Hockensmith was a member of Annunciation Church, McSherrystown, and a veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of the John Timon Reiley Historical Society and of the Brushtown Fire Co. He was a member of the Adams County Volunteer Firesmen's Association, The Hoanover Numismatic Society, the American Numismatic Association, D.A.V. Commander's Club, the Americam Red Cross, McSherrystown Home Association, the HART Center in New Oxford, and an honorary citizen of Boy's Town USA.
He is survived by two brothers, Albert Hockensmith of Gettysburg and Lavere B. Hockensmith of Hanover, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, meeting at the Hick's Funeral Home in McSherrystown at 8:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Annunciation Church at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Charles L. Persing as celebrant.
Military services at the graveside will be given by the Hanover Allied Veterans Council. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
