Born in Brushtown, he was the son of the late Basil A. and Mary Katherine Hufnagle Hockensmith.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in New Chester, New Oxford Social and Athletic Club and McSherrystown Home Association.
He is survived by six daughters, Jane M. Hull and Cindy L. Wilson both of New Oxford, Arlene L. Noel of Gettysburg, Myrtle E. Hale and Anna M. Lecrone, both of Hanover, and Delores M. Ames of Taneytown, Md., three sons, Burnell F. Hockensmith of Littlestown, Nelson M. Hockensmith of Gettysburg and Daniel Snyder of Hampton; 24 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and one brother, Lavere Hockensmith of Hanover.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Feiser Funeral Home, New Oxford, with his pastor, the Rev. Douglas Hahn, officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Church Cemetery in New Chester.
