Lavere B. Hockensmith, 74, of Hanover, died Sunday, Jan. 21, at his residence.
Born Jan. 19, 1922 in Conewago Township, he was the son of the late Basil A. and Mary C. Hufnagel Hockensmith. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis A Wallet Hockensmith in 1987.
He was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church, McSherrystown. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 14, the VFW Post 8896 of East Berlin, the McSherrystiown Home Association and the AMVETS Post 22.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and retired from Ramcliff Supply Co., Hanover.
He is survived by one son, Micheal W. Hockensmith of Smyrna, Tenn.; two daughters, Joan M. Santillo of Morristown and Rosalee H. Kress of Hanover; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and his companion, Norma J. Knepper of East Berlin.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the Hicks Funeral Home, McSherrystown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Annunciation Church at 9 a.m. His pastor, the Rev. Andre J. Melusky will be celebrant. Interment in be in the parish cemetery.
