Jesse Day of Orem Dies at 82
OREM — Jesse Elvon Day, 82, 528 S. 590 E., Orem, died Wednesday in the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City of a heart attack. He was born Oct. 30,1889, in Fillmore, a son of James and Emma A. Mitchell Day.
He married Lora E. Sorensen on Sept. 10, 1919, in the Manti Temple, and she died July 6, 1962. He studied civil engineering at Brigham Young University and law from the American Extension University of Los Angeles.
A resident of Aurora, Utah, for 57 years, Mr. Day was a prominent businessman there. He was a Scouter, civic and community leader. Mr. Day
served during World War I in the Armed Forces and had been a Justice of the Peace.
Active in the LDS Church, he was in the stake high council, was stake YMMIA superintendent, stake clerk and served in many ward positions. He was a High Priest at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Sevier County Merchants Association and a life member of the American Legion.
Survivors include three sons and five daughters, Fred Richard Day and Mrs. William E. (Venita) Drew, both Salt Lake City; David Parley Day, Fairfield, Calif.; J. Rodney Day, Orem; Mrs. Hugh G. (Dorothy) MacNiven, Norman, Okla.; Mrs. Robert D. (Virginia) Hayes, Provo; Mrs, John P. (Kathleen) Bartholomew, Fayette; Mrs. Durian H. (Joan) Stewart, San Diego, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters, Horace E. Day and Mrs. Hilman (Ruby) Davis, both Fillmore; Mrs. Arthur (Flora) Cooper, Aurora; Mrs. Walter (Venice) Barnes, San Gabriel, Calif.; Mrs. Frank (Ethel) Stewart; Sacramento, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Aurora Ward Chapel. Friends may call at 528 S. 590 E. in Orem Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the chapel in Aurora from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Aurora City Cemetery.
