Horace Clay Dean, 77, of Decatur, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Decatur Hospital.

Born January 5, 1926, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Henry Clay and Maggie M. Walker Dean. On September 14, 1946, he married Mary Sylvester in Danville.

Mr. Dean worked at the Danville Grain Elevator. He then worked fo B. F. Goodrich & Company for 33 years, starting in Burlington, moving to Ottumwa, Red Oak, and Jacksonville, Illinois He retired to Decatur.

He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church of Decatur and several other organizations.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Harry C. Dean of Moweaqua, Illinois; two daughters, Connie Mudd of Jacksonville, Illinois, and Janice Wilmore of Lincoln, Illinois; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; and three sisters, Henrietta Jane Lehnert of Oakville, Gertrude Gibson of Burlington and Viola Hodge of Low Moor; and one brother, Clifford of Seattle.

The funeral for Mr. Dean was at Cody & Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville, with the Reverend David Keithley officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Jacksonville.
