Born January 18, 1910, in Des Moines County, he was the son of Henry Clay and Maggie Walker Dean. On December 9, 1936, he married Delta Orwig in Morning Sun. She died September 24, 1968. On August 3, 1969, he married Peggy Bolton Dean in Columbus City.
Mr. Dean was a farmer and also worked at J.I. Case Company, Burlington. He also was employed by the Morning Sun School District as a custodian and school bus driver.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Yarmouth.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Dessie Hoschek of Burlington, Lila Janssen of Oakville and Carol Romney of Denver, Colorado; four sons, Roger of Livonia, Michigan, Jerry of Des Moines, Gregory of Honolulu and Ryan of Washington, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Pansy Wehage of Morning Sun; three stepsons, Daniel of Morning Sun, David of Salina, Kansas, and Jeff of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Viola Hodges of LaMor , Gertrude Gibson of Burlington and Henrietta Jane Lehnert of Oakville; four brothers, Harold of Kingston, Clifford of Edmonds, Washington, Clay of Decatur, Illinois, and Grant of Danville; 17 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a sister, a brother and two great-granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, Morning Sun.
The service for Mr. Dean will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Yarmouth. The Reverend Craig Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.
