Harold Dean, 85, of Mediapolis, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at the Community Care of America in Mediapolis.

Born July 1, 1911, in Des Moines County, he was the son of Henry and Maggie Walker Dean. He married Ruth Swanson April 9, 1937, at Fort Madison. She died June 20, 1966.

He had attended schools in Denmark and was a farmer, carpenter and had operated a sawmill for many years. He was an avid gardener and in earlier years attended Kingston United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Elrod of West Burlington; three sisters, Gertrude Gibson of Burlington, Henrietta Lehnert of Oakville and Viola Hodge of Low Moor; and two brothers, Horace Clay Dean of Decatur, Illinois, and Clifford Dean of Seattle, Washington.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one sister and three brothers.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis.

The funeral for Mr. Dean will be 1030 a.m. Friday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, with the Reverends Dan Baker and Gary Biggs officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.
