"Frank S. Allen, Educator, Dies --- Frank Stewart Allen, 85, 2121 Browning Ave., former principal of East High School and Utah educator for 46 years, died Thursday in a Salt Lake hospital of a heart attack.
"Mr. Allen was born April 9, 1892, inn Salt Lake City to David R. and Leila Smith Merrill Allen. His father was one of the founders of the University of Utah. He married Inez Rhead Aug. 11, 1913, in the Beehive House in Salt Lake City and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
"He attended Salt Lake public schools and graduated from Salt Lake High School in 1906. He attended the University of Utah Prep School and received a master's degree in education from the University of Utah in 1927 and also attended Stanford University.
"Mr. Allen moved in 1914 to Coalville, where he taught 7th grade. He also was first band leader and basketball coach of North Summit High School. In the Salt Lake district, he taught at Bryant Junior High School, served as principal of Hamilton Elementary School for six years, assistant principal of East High School for three years, principal of Irving Junior High School for two years and principal of East High for 10 years. He also was principal of Hillside Junior High School.
"He retired in June, 1957. After retirement he taught classes in educational administration at University of Utah.
"Mr. Allen was a member of the Exchange Club. He was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught the high priest group in the Yale Ward for many years.
"Surviving are his wife, two sons and one daughter, David R., Frank R. and Mrs. A. J. (Leila) Alexander, all Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Four brothers preceded him in death."
